Pre-owned jewellery can offer a piece you like within your budget. Its value depends on the actual material, condition and what the price includes. It is not automatically cheaper than every new piece.

Why prices can be attractive

New jewellery may include manufacturing, design, branding and shop services in its price. A pre-owned piece is offered with its particular wear, size and available documents. If that condition suits you and you do not need the latest design, it may meet your needs at a lower cost.

Ask for the final price, including any alterations you want. Being sold by a pawnshop does not automatically mean there are no making charges, and the previous customer’s pawn amount is not a formula for the retail price.

Value is more than the lowest price

Check fit, metal, weight, condition, documents and any resizing or repair costs. A less expensive ring that cannot be made to fit may not suit you. For a gift, the recipient’s preferences matter more than maximum size.

When a lower price may not be better value

Add any necessary clasp repairs, replacement parts or resizing before comparing with a new item. Check after-sale terms too. A new piece that is ready to wear, with services you need, may sometimes be the better choice.

Compare before buying

Tell staff your preferred style, size and budget, then arrange to view the actual piece. If considering gold payments, include the interest in your comparison—not just the initial amount. Read how gold payments work or compare new and pre-owned pieces.
