Choosing between new and pre-owned jewellery is easier when both pieces meet the same need. Start with the type of jewellery you want to wear, rather than a large discount percentage.

Set the purpose

Is it for daily wear, a gift or an occasion? Decide on metal, stones, size and budget. A discount does not prove value when the starting price or material differs.

Compare five details

What to compare What to note for each piece
Metal Material, purity and metal weight apart from other components
Gemstones Identity, details and any report for the actual stone
Condition and fit Wear, fastenings, prongs, size and work needed
Final price The piece plus any alterations or services you choose
After purchase Documents and agreed return, exchange or repair terms

Use the same questions for both shops. If one answer is missing, ask for it before deciding which offer is better value.

Know the limits of pre-owned stock

A particular size or design may not be available, and pieces can show wear. Authenticity does not mean new condition, no flaws or a laboratory report for every item. Treat these as separate questions.

Ask Money OK about a suitable piece

Describe what you are comparing and the budget you want to keep. Staff can check the items available and confirm where to view them. Messaging does not by itself reserve a piece or complete a purchase. Ask a branch · Before buying.
